The Creators Palette

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Hi! My name is Melanie Pruitt and I love to paint with watercolors. The movement and dance that occurs between the pigment and water along with the unpredictable results are fascinating to me. Every painting I sit down to do is an adventure!

My goal with “The Creators Palette” is to share my love for, and awe in, the creation of beauty. I feel the best art touches my heart and makes me “feel”. The feeling may be joyous, peaceful, or even sad (one of my favorite art pieces makes me cry). Mosl of all, I want to convey a feeling of wonder and draw the viewer closer to the creator of all beauty.

I’d like to share with you, a little about my life and how I became a visual artist:

I am a Follower of Jesus Christ. I have been married to a great man since 1986 and we have 3 children (2 young adults and one older teen). We were born and raised in Davis, CA, but have resided in the Pacific NW for over 22 years and we love it here!

I have always been a creative person, but it wasn’t until fairly recently that I began to paint in watercolor and sell my art. I was a very active person most of my life and my artistic/creative outlets fell in areas like competitive diving and gymnastics, garden design and most recently, developing and teaching a preschool dance program at Vancouver’s Columbia Dance. I am a published author, and I have also been asked many times to speak at women’s retreats and conferences which I enjoy very much and put a lot of artistic effort into my presentations.

While teaching preschool dance, I began experiencing some strange physical problems. Over the next few years, I was diagnosed with a variety of illnesses which changed as time went on. Basically, the doctors I saw just didn’t know what was wrong. I now know that I have ME/CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) which has also caused Partial Dysautonomia – which is a dysfunction of the Autonomic nervous system (the part of the central nervous system that controls all automatic functions). This has meant that I am no longer active in my past activities and had to quit my dance teaching, writing and speaking.

Anxious that illness would not ruin my life, I began looking for things that I could spend my time doing. Being stuck most hours in a recliner is difficult, but I am thankful that it has brought me to a point of developing new artistic endeavors.

Thanks you for visiting and reading my long profile. I am very friendly so feel free to contact me with any questions you might have!
